The locker so nice we made it twice.
In 2016, the Los Angeles Clippers and sports design firm Gensler approached Shield about creating a sophisticated locker as part of a fast makeover to modernize an outdated but vital component of the Staples Arena. That project was so successful that the Clippers approached Shield again when it was time to work on training lockers at the Honey Training Center.
The design of the Staples Arena lockers was so well received that it served as the basis of design for the Honey Training Center lockers. Changes to the design were minimal: the dark walnut finish of the was replaced with a lighter, white oak finish to better reflect the space; sliding upper storage was replaced with a larger locking cabinet with digital lock; the smaller lockbox was removed to allow for a larger, open shelf. Many features from the Staples Arena design remained the same: the solid wood bench faces passively ventilate storage with carefully machined perforations and a custom, inset metal Clippers logo; digital, lockable storage flanks a garment rack, allowing players to keep valuables stored safely in the heavily trafficked arena; and integrated feature lighting helps provide focus and unify the space.
In the end, 20 player lockers found their new home at the Honey Training Center to seamlessly blend training and gameday experiences for the Clippers.
